What is antisocial personality disorder?
Antisocial personality disorder affects a person’s mental health, making them exploit, manipulate, or violate other people without any guilt or remorse. Such people mostly go against the law, increasing their chances of being criminals and rarely accomplish responsibilities, be it at home, work, or school.
Signs and symptoms
- Poor social relationships
- Frequent breaking of the law
- Intimidating others regularly
- No empathy or remorsefulness for others
- No planning ahead
- Persistently telling lies to exploit people
Risks
- Being raised in a chaotic or violent family
- Subjection to abuse during childhood
- Family history of the disorder
Prevention and when to see the doctor
While it may not be easy to prevent this disorder since it is sourced from childhood, I recommend keenness on identifying the children at risk for earlier intervention to save them. Suppose you notice the above symptoms in a family member, friend, or yourself, a mental health professional can guide on the best action.
