Genetics, age, and hormones play a role in our hair growth. However, this does not mean we get nutrient intake out of the table. Our hair requires various nutrients, including vitamins, to grow stronger and shiny. Today, we will look at vitamins that encourage healthy hair. Let’s get started.
B Vitamins
While there are tons of B vitamins out there, you can trust biotin (Vitamin B7) with your hair. Biotin is heralded as the best cure for hair thinning and breakage. Generally, you can get B vitamins, including our beloved biotin, naturally from foods including meat, whole grains, fish, milk, eggs, bananas, and dark, leafy greens.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is involved in the production of sebum, an oily substance that keeps our scalp moist. In my experience, a happy scalp contributes to healthy hair. Vitamin A is readily available in milk, eggs, and yogurt. If you are on a vegan diet, I highly recommend carrots, spinach, kale, and pumpkins.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C fights against oxidative stress triggered by free radicals, ensuring your hair stays young and healthy. This antioxidant is also involved in the production of collagen, a protein that supports your hair follicles, encouraging healthy and strong hair. Where to find Vitamin C? Supplements and foods are great sources. For the latter, I highly recommend peppers, citrus fruits, guavas, and strawberries.
My product Recommendations
As a registered dietician, I recommend the following supplements, especially if you are following a vegan diet or find obtaining the above vitamins from natural food a hard task.
