Douching is the practice of cleaning the rectum, most usually before analingus (oral, anal sex) or anal penetration, perhaps with a butt plug.
This is not a necessary for safe and hygienic anal sex however some people feel self-conscious or they or their partner may not be able to handle the pooh factor so douching can make this a bit easier.
Butt Plug: What Is A Douche For?
A douche gently cleanses the rectum using warm water, which will flush any faecal matter from the walls of the rectum. To clean your rectum you need a douche and warm water, and be close to the toilet. Do not douche with any other substance such as cleaning products, an antibacterial fluid or soap, as this can strip positive bacteria from your rectum.
A douche has a bulb made from soft rubber or plastic. This is hollow and can be easily squeezed with one hand and a hollow plastic tube is attached to the bulb.
We recommend using cooled –to warm – boiled water always check the temperature before douching.
Squeeze the bulb of the douche and suck the water up into the bulb as it inflates.
You then need to squeeze the bulb until water comes out the end of the tube, and then suck the water up again. This will ensure the douche is full and no air remains in the bulb
Apply water-based lubricant to both the tube and the anal opening
Insert the tube into your rectum, pausing if you feel discomfort, and allow your sphincter muscles time to relax
Once the tube is inserted, gently squeeze the bulb to allow the warm water to flow into your rectum. You can use both hands for this to ensure the maximum amount of water goes in
You do not need hold the water in your rectum. Sit on the toilet and push gently so that the water flows out
This procedure can be repeated if you want to
The amount of water used to douche is designed to cleanse the rectum only, and not the bowel
Some people also like to douche after anal sex
Do not to over-douche as this area is naturally cleansed every day through a normal bowel motion and does not actually require regular washing.
