Faded Culture Story

Faded Culture Story

Business Name and What it Does

Faded Culture is a brand that educates & inspires. Using social media platforms (YouTube, TikTok & Instagram), faded culture helps people seeking knowledge in the barber industry, giving away in-depth tutorials on how to cut hair. We have worked hard on creating simplified systems making it easy to follow along and learn the fundamentals of barbering. We created a clothing/product line that expresses the emotion the brand is founded on to help promote this movement.

A “fade” haircut develops an emotion of confidence. Confidence helps you perform best & with energy, great things happen. Those who may not necessarily get a “fade” haircut but rather express their confidence in their ways are inevitably part of the culture. Through quality garments and products, they bring their audience something tangible.

Founder’s/Owner’s Story and What Motivated Them to Start the Business

Faded Culture was started by two brothers who wanted everything but only had the bare necessities; if anything extra was going to be obtained, it had to be earned, not given. Sergio and Adrian Grew up humbly in the north Central side of San Antonio with two parents who were immigrants and risking for the American dream with only two tools at their disposal, hard work and the will never to give up. The two principles, “hard work” and “never willing to give up,” would translate throughout Sergio and Adrian’s lives and carry them on a journey of self-development and self-discovery.

Sergios story

In fifth grade, having a military teacher who always acknowledged kids with fresh fades & a clean uniform sparked my interest in Sergio to upkeep a clean and sharp image. “A round of applause ensued, appreciated and acknowledged. It felt good. I felt like I could accomplish anything I set out to do. This haircut gave me powers. It gave me stature; I had to maintain this look, this feeling”. We all have had that moment. When something shakes you and rattles you down to the core, the moment you feel inspired, for Sergio, the memory of feeling noticed and appreciated positively in fifth grade was that moment. Living in a world that constantly throws negativity and uncontrollable challenges at you, sometimes a haircut, appearing to be well put together and to be noticed for that effort, washes away the struggles of life.

Sergio felt that this feeling should be captured and shared with other people, and if wearing a certain type of hairstyle can promote that feeling, then that’s something Sergio wanted to integrate into his life by learning how to cut the hair off the porch of his parents home and eventually sharing that gift with the world.

Adrian’s Story

Adrian understood that the act of work was the only way you would gain anything in life. Adrian didn’t know that his passion for working hard would lead him to become a barber & create the faded culture brand.

“For as long as I can remember, I was around the hair, I would spend every summer in my mother’s hair salon working for a few dollars a day sweeping hair off of the floor, being only 6 years old at the time, a few dollars felt like a fortune. That’s when I realized that with great work ethic comes great rewards.”

Fast forward to middle school, Adrian gained a new inspiration when he had a classmate approach him for a haircut mistaking him for his brother Sergio who was barbering. His classmate was saddened to hear that he had the wrong Barron but suggested that Adrian still cut his hair and start practicing barbering if it was something Adrian was interested in. Adrian, the opportunist he is and having grown up around hair, felt comfortable giving barbering a shot. It was Destiny. Adrian had a skill & a passion that started as an accident and became his focus; cutting hair.

FADED CULTURE is born! having educational systems to share with the world and quality garments/products to express their artistry, the brand has grown in popularity., Sergio and Adrian created the Faded Culture YouTube channel to help new barbers and the general public learn how to perform this art, with people requesting knowledge on how to practice the art of fading. Amid Covid, Sergio created a haircut tutorial on how to cut your hair, titled “self haircut easy way to do it,” which featured the Barrons signature hairstyle, the fade. The channel blew up, and the tutorial has over 4 million views. With that traction and popularity, the entire channel grew from 100,000 subscribers in one year to over 500,000 subscribers in its second year of being up with multiple tutorials with over one million views.

Challenges the Business/Market Is Facing

Our biggest challenge is keeping up with the demand & having to learn multiple skills to help grow the brand.

Starting a business pretty much from nothing and having to learn through trial and error, Operating out of our actual living space with no real guidance aside from books and the pure will to do what it takes. With growth comes new challenges and obstacles to overcome, like learning to let go and delegate tedious tasks to better focus on the bigger picture and finding motivated individuals willing to learn the faded culture vision and live through it.

Opportunities

We are glad to see the rapid growth in the barber industry, with people from all walks of life realizing that you can now have a successful career in barbering. People respect and appreciate it for the art that it truly is. You can spark confidence through a haircut and a well-kept image; as for Faded Culture, were just happy to assist in spreading that message. We also see an opportunity to bring our vision to a physical location in the future. Opening Faded Culture academy soon will help people in person learn our techniques in fading and how to market yourself and grow clientele. Teaching everything we’ve learned from the industry and maybe even touring the country better help spread the knowledge and appreciation of the industry.
