TREAT YOUR BACTERIAL INFECTION BY USING CBD OIL

///

Research on medical cannabis has gained traction in the recent past, and the good news is: preliminary results are showing CBD oil as an effective treatment for several ailments.

Medical research continues to help physicians understand all the facets of human health that can potentially benefit from CBD oil. And experts are monitoring its use as a medicinal supplement in the treatment of Bacterial Infections for patients exhibiting antibiotic resistance.

CBD Oil and Bacterial Infections: Can CBD Oil be an Alternative to Antibiotics? Understanding Bacterial Infections

What is a bacterial infection? A bacterial infection is a manifestation or a proliferation of harmful strains of bacteria in or outside the body. All parts of the human body can be susceptible to bacteria. And some of the infections caused by strains of bacteria include cholera, gonorrhea, pneumonia, food poisoning, meningitis, among others.

Traditionally, antibiotics have been administered to patients with bacterial infections. But according to the World Health Organization (WHO), excessive use of antibiotics has led to a medical catastrophe called Antibiotic Resistance. Furthermore, the world’s biggest health organization asserts that antibiotic resistance is one of the gravest threats to global health, security, and development.

However, this problem is far from modern because as early as 1928, bacteria have been known to develop resistance to known treatment methods, most notably after the discovery of penicillin. Experts clarify that the widespread administration of antibiotics has boosted bacteria’s ability to resist existing and new medications. To that extent, the U.S Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that around 2 million U.S citizens get infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria every year. But thanks to several medical research breakthroughs on medical marijuana, CBD oil has been shown to help treat bacterial infections.

Why Take CBD Oil for Bacterial Infections

While helping to treat bacterial infections, antibiotics have been known to wipe out both good (useful) and bad (harmful) from the body. The bacteria that line up your digestive tract, for example, are categorized as good because they aid in digestion. But the use of antibiotics can be hazardous because they attack all bacteria indiscriminately.

The number of harmful antibiotic-resistant bacteria is on the rise. That begs the question; is taking antibiotic medication worth the risk? And not to mention the risk of wiping out good bacteria that contribute to the overall well-being. If you catch a mild bacterial infection, you might consider yourself lucky if your immune system takes care of that on its own. In such a case, you wouldn’t need to take an antibiotic prescription. However, in the event of a severe bacterial infection, or if you are diagnosed with a medication-resistant strain in your body, then it might be time you considered using CBD oil.

Why CBD Oil?

Well, CBD oil has shown promising results that have made its case as an effective alternative treatment for bacterial infections. And the past few years have seen people turn to CBD because it doesn’t wipe out useful bacteria from the body and doesn’t bring about common side effects such as stomach ache, vomiting, and nausea – which is often associated with antibiotic use.

Antibiotic Resistance: A Global Health threat

You have probably taken antibiotics at least once at some point. Whether it was an ear infection during your childhood or a urinary tract infection now that you are an adult, antibiotics are one of the most important and widely administered medication classes worldwide. This class of drugs covers a range of infections that include:

  • Viral infections.
  • Fungal.
  • Bacterial.
  • Protozoa infections.

But it is widely documented that antibiotics overuse (or misuse) has resulted in one of the biggest threats facing world health, security, and development: Antibiotic Resistance. This phenomenon occurs when infection-causing bacteria no longer respond to medication intended to eliminate the infection. Such bacteria are potentially dangerous and heighten the risk of death.

Statistically speaking, 23,000 people die in the United States as a result of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. And a further 15,000 die due to bacteria that suppress antibiotics, with the majority of fatalities occurring in nursing homes and hospitalized patients.

Effectiveness of CBD Oil in the Treatment of Bacterial Infections.

According to the U.S National Institute of Health – an organization that holds the patent to medical marijuana – CBD possesses antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that could help treat bacterial infections. There has been intense research on CBD since the 90s, but the first research that pointed to its legitimacy as an alternative to antibiotics came in 2008.

  • As an antimicrobial, English researchers investigated the effectiveness of cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on several pathogenic bacteria. Multiple strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria were used in the study, and, amazingly, all the strains were responsive to CBD. The preliminary report from this study concluded there were promising benefits for using CBD as an alternative treatment of resistant bacteria.
  • Chronic inflammation often causes pain or stiffness around infected parts of the body. And this happens when bacterial infections are left unchecked. That said, CBD’s anti-inflammation property can reduce inflammation by altering the functioning of the endocannabinoid system.

How to Take CBD Oil for Bacterial Infections

As always, you should consult your physician before embarking on any form of medication. That way, you will get an insight into what works best for you. That said, CBD oil is generally considered safe and free of side effects and can safely be used alongside other antibiotics. However, it is crucial to get a heads up from a doctor to understand how CBD can interact with any form of medication that you might be taking.

Once you get the green light and approval from your doctor, the next up is to decide the best form of CBD product to take. Remember that whatever form of CBD you choose will ultimately reflect your preference, type of bacterial infection, and your symptoms. For skin infections, topical creams are the best route. This way, you can directly apply the medication to the affected area. Other forms of CBD, such as capsules or drops, may be appropriate for severe bacterial infections. Regardless, you wouldn’t run out of options because there are numerous forms of CBD on the market, including cookies.
