HEAT INTOLERANCE

HEAT INTOLERANCE

What is heat intolerance?

Does your body feel hot when near heat or high temperature? We call that heat intolerance. The body is unusually sensitive to hot surroundings, possibly causing sweating and may take longer to cool down.

-What causes heat intolerance? (Some areas to explore are thyroid conditions, diabetes, and MS.)

Hyperthyroidism

People suffering from hyperthyroidism have excess thyroxine production, which raises the body’s metabolism. High metabolism causes a rise in body temperature, and worsens when exposed to heat.

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis mainly affects the brain and spinal cord. It is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the casing of the central nervous system’s nerves, resulting in the alteration of brain signals. As a result, overheating can happen when in a heated environment.

– What are the symptoms of heat intolerance?

They include;

  • Sweating
  • Cramping
  • Body weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea

-Can you treat heat intolerance?

If your heat intolerance results from an underlying condition like hyperthyroidism, I recommend getting medications or other related treatments for the disease, including surgery or radioactive iodine. But without a preexisting condition, you can do the below;

  • Move to cooler environments.
  • Hydrate more with iced drinks for cooking and preventing dehydration following excessive sweating.
  • Wear light outfits that do not retain heat.
