HOW TO OVERCOME HANGXIETY

How to overcome “hangxiety” (hangover anxiety) after a night out.

What’s happening when you experience anxiety after a night of drinking

The body undergoes physiological stress similar to what happens during an injury or sickness. It alters the immune system and raises the stress hormone. Furthermore, it increases the heart rate and blood. One also experiences sleep deprivation and stress that easily reduce mood and brain function.

How it impacts your mental health

Hangxiety causes decrease in dopamine that balances anxiety. This causes a victim to find hardships in handling any extra stress they may have during that time- declines in memory and attention.

How to manage hangxiety in the moment and feel better

  • Rehydrating by drinking more water frequently.
  • Suppose you are vomiting, eat light meals, including dry toast, nutritional and whole grain foods.
  • Take a shower and try to sleep by ensuring your environment is convenient for sleep.
  • Get over-the-counter drugs for pain relief, including ibuprofen. But start with smaller dosages to prevent possible bleeding.
