HOW YOU SHOULD EAT TO LOWER INFLAMMATION

HOW YOU SHOULD EAT TO LOWER INFLAMMATION

1. Explain how your diet can cause inflammation and what kinds of foods contribute to inflammation.

Diet can disrupt the gut bacteria causing an interaction with the immune system, which is stimulated to result in chronic inflammation.  The foods include;

  • Artificial trans fats
  • Seed oils and vegetables
  • Processed carbs

2. What are foods that fight inflammation? Please list 5 foods and explain why it helps lower inflammation.

Fatty fish

Salmo, herring, and mackerel are among the best sources for fatty fish. When consumed, they are metabolized into protectins and resolvins- compounds with anti-inflammatory properties.

Broccoli

Broccoli has antioxidants, including sulforaphane, which fights inflammation. It lowers the nuclear and cytokines levels- particles that cause inflammation.

Grapes

Grapes reduce inflammation through anthocyanins. They also reduce the risk of various diseases, including obesity and heart disease.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are filled with potassium, vitamin C, and lycopene, which have anti-inflammatory features.  I recommend cooking them for better lycopene absorption.

Berries

Like grapes, berries have anthocyanin antioxidants. Eating them reduces proneness to various diseases.

3. Explain if there is a particular anti-inflammatory diet style someone should follow (i.e. mediterranean)

Research shows that following a Mediterranean diet containing more nuts, fruits, veggies, olive oil, and whole grains can fight inflammation. The diet has compounds that inhibit cytokines production, thus reduce inflammation.
