What hyperhidrosis is and if there can be different reasons for it

Hyperhidrosis is a condition whereby the sweat glands overact and trigger excessive sweating. Your sweat glands function more than needed. The reasons include;

  • Emotional stress like anxiety.
  • Spinal cord problems or injuries.
  • Heat
  • Some odors or foods like chocolate and peanut.
  • Menopause
  • Exercise
  • Metabolic stress.

Is it something to be concerned about?

Of course, yes. It may mentally affect the victim, especially if it causes body odor that is embarrassing. It may also cause skin conditions, including itchiness, inflammation, or maceration that accompanies skin disintegration on the soles of the feet.

If it keeps happening should we seek medical help?

Definitely, yes because it is a health condition and when left untreated, it may be life-threatening.

Are there ways to prevent it?

Yes, especially if it is the generalized type. For example;

  • Lifestyle changes, such as, more frequent showering if you have minor symptoms of the condition.
  • Antiperspirants like aluminum-based types to block the sweat glands.
  • Use clinical-grade wipes with glycopyrroniumtosylate to lessen sweating in the armpits.
