INTORUS – development of movement and body awareness

My name is Renata Gutiérrez and I am the founder of INTORUS.

This project focuses on the development of movement and body awareness, and it does so through a curious element that crossed my path eight years ago, and that changed my life. I tell you from the beginning…

I graduated in mathematics the same year that I started my other great training: being a mother. Looking back, I would say that I studied mathematics looking for truths and that what I found was the capacity for learning, abstraction and optimization, as well as logic, coherence, structure,… in short, a method to continue searching for truths.

My children, on the other hand, taught me to improvise, to know my limits, to be incoherent, illogical, unstructured… Without these two apparently conflicting training sessions, I would not have overcome the great challenge that this project has been from the start.

In April 2014 I discovered toroflux, the invention that Jochen Valett brought to the world in the mid-90s, which materializes the toroid and its movement. Although I could not have known it at the time, this discovery was a turning point in my life. It was the trigger for passion and need to ally in me and begin the adventure of understanding what it was, what it did, and why everyone liked it so much. That same summer I start selling them under the name Flipyflux at national and international music festivals.

The main difference with the current INTORUS is that Flipyflux is made up of a single toroid that rotates only to the left. I spent many days with people from different countries and many, many hours each day dancing with him, talking about him and thinking about him. Thanks to this immersion in its uses and mysteries, I begin to understand the essence of this element and glimpse a path.

At the end of that summer a decision was born in me that has gone through moments of great uncertainty since then, but that has never wavered: there is something to discover, and I am going to try it.

From those beginnings, I already see quite clearly that something is missing, that Flipyflux is not complete and that there is an absence, that “the other” is missing, the one that turns to the right. Thus begins the adventure of shaping a development that I will discover based on practice, observation, study and perseverance. With Intorus, my strongest interests and concerns found a common point. The feeling of dispersion that I had until then disappeared, and I even felt that many of the experiences of my life had been a training to be able to face all the challenges that were posed to me to start my idea.

Sales at festivals and specialized fairs have remained the main source of financing, inspiration and growth for the project to this day. Talking to people face to face, seeing their reactions, sharing my ideas and listening to theirs, is a privilege that marks my path. It is exciting and surprising to see that almost everyone is attracted by the laughter and the contact it generates between people, and how after using it for a few minutes people say they feel good, better. The same thing happens with children, I would even dare to say that multiplied by ten.

It has taken me seven years to understand what I offer and how to do it. Seven years of personal and professional challenges, as hard as necessary to move forward. Seven years to feel proud of my proposal and want to offer it to the world.

In January 2022, a manufacturing process of more than four years was completed, which has resulted in Intorus, a product with the quality it was looking for, made up of a toroid that rotates to the left and another to the right. Now I realize that Flipyflux was half and that only with the two elements it makes sense to talk about their applications. My mathematical mind needed this geometric coherence to be able to synthesize everything analyzed and experienced in these years and to know how to transmit it. The workshops where I show its different practical applications have taken shape and I want to tell and transmit all the information that I have been accumulating and paying.

At INTORUS we currently focus on three work approaches.

On the one hand, as a therapeutic tool. It facilitates the vast majority of physical and/or mental rehabilitation therapies, due to the way in which it brings into play movement, emotion, sensation, interaction,… its versatility means that the therapist quickly finds here a support through which to carry out the sessions. At the same time, she is very autonomous and naturally makes most of the psychomotor concepts work, so she is very suitable to continue working at home.

The Faculty of Occupational Therapy of Cáceres has collaborated in this development for 5 years.

Another broad field would be focused on the physical, mental, emotional and energetic development of children. We inspire both parents and children, as well as teachers and companions, with games and activities that work It’s four levels.

The last one is the most personal one that comes from my practice and the whole of myself. It is born from the deep understanding of the movement of the toroid and the coordination with it. It is a technique based on the geometry of the toroid, which allows a very deep work of coordination and body awareness. I have only started to show this development a few months ago, and I consider that it can be included within the body-mind techniques.

I have always lived with the possibility that all this could come out, or not come out, without more. Today however, when I read the paragraphs above and I see that this is a reality, that this is the project and the product that I have shaped, I feel that I have achieved it, regardless of what happens now, and of the reception that I have on the street, I feel that I have achieved it.

Without a doubt, INTORUS has made me grow, it has been a project-child that has confronted me with my limits countless times, that has not allowed me to settle down for more than five minutes from time to time, that has pushed me to be better in order to do better. , which has awakened in me such feelings, that despite the difficulties, I only thought about how I could do better…

One of the biggest challenges has been trusting myself. For one thing, because this is a new development and the claims I make, I can’t put them in anyone’s mouth but my own. As a mathematician, truth and affirmations have a lot of weight, so I needed to be very, very sure of what I was saying before I said it.

It is also an object that leaves no one indifferent. There are those who think it’s silly, and they turn that self-confidence upside down. The ones who think it’s wonderful and tell you how you should do it and what you’re doing wrong. Lastly, there are those who listen to you, understand you, with whom you share and tell you, cheer up, keep going. And then again everything has been worth it.

And this brings me to the other big challenge, and one of the few tricks, if any. Don’t throw in the towel. Stay until there really is no way out, and if that’s the situation, know how to see it too. But if there is, and it still makes sense to you, go ahead. Come what may. And here if I allow myself some license, since as a friend once told me, what I have gone through to get here only God and I know. And it is that a personal project, is that, personal. And every blockage in you is a blockage in the project, and every step forward for you is a step forward for the project. Or so it has been for me. And I have felt that there were many experiences that I had to go through, both professionally and personally, to get to where I am today.

Now the challenge is to overcome the barriers that cause the new and the unknown. As always, keep doing the best I can and know how, while accepting the results and adapting to the pace that life sets.

Until the moment INTORUS appeared in my life, my feeling was to be lost, to have many interests, but not to delve into any of them. I thought this was a mistake, that I had to specialize. Suddenly that changed, quite the contrary, it seemed that everything had been planned, that everything was a training to be prepared to approach this curious element from all its points of view. And I see more and more of this. People who at one point in their lives, make a cocktail with themselves and their knowledge, experiences, skills, shortcomings,… and get something unique that only they could do. If you feel the call of entrepreneurship, do not hesitate, trust yourself and try it, it will always be better to have tried it and not have it come out, than not having done it.

I say goodbye with two sentences:

Sometimes you think that life is telling you no, when it is telling you wait.

Everything works out in the end, and if not, it’s not the end.

Renata.
