Pelvic girdle pain or symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD) is a musculoskeletal complaint affecting the pelvis. This disabling condition is more common in pregnant and postpartum women. When ignored, SPD can cause depression, anxiety, disability, and work absenteeism, negatively affecting your daily function and quality of life.

  • Tightness, especially during pregnancy and postpartum
  • Accidents
  • Falls
  • Injuries from sports
  • Arthritis
  • Tissue laxity

How to Treat Pelvic Girdle Pain

  • Try acupuncture or physiotherapy
  • Exercise regularly during pregnancy

How to avoid Pelvic Girdle Pain

  • Wear low-heeled shoes
  • Minimize climbing stairs and walking or standing for a long duration.

Minimize activities that cause hip abduction, including squatting and getting in or out of a car.
