For most people, pornography is a man’s world; a fantasy land tailor-made for males, where guys can briefly disappear to satisfy their…well…male needs. This perception always bugged me, because I’m as female as can be and I watch porn on a (ahem) regular basis. Was the implication meant to be that I excessive testosterone in my system? Was something wrong with me? Well surprise surprise, recent studies have found that plenty of women are just as into the flickering screen on friskiness as men. What’s genuinely surprising though is that women have distinctly different reasons for watching porn.
Curiosity is a big one. The opinion that porn is just for guys has been prevalent for so long that most women believe it, making porn extra taboo viewing. Of course, as we all know, what’s taboo is especially desirable which makes porn a real forbidden pleasure for many women. Then of course there’s simple curiosity over all the hype. If so many guys are into it, it must be good right? A lot of girls can’t resist peeking for this very reason, and keep peeking when they find they like it.
A lot of women have admitted that they watch porn to learn new moves. It can be pretty inspiring to see that blonde bombshell contorting herself in ways we never imagined. For a lot of female porn fans, it’s even something to aspire to! If you bust out a position that you learned from “girls gone wild 3” and get the response you’re looking for, that’s pretty awesome. If nothing else it makes for a great educational aide with you’re looking to perfect the fine art of fellatio. Who knew the tongue was so effective in that exact spot?
Then there’s exploring secret fantasies. We’ve got some common ground with the guys here. Just as he finds an outlet for his threesome fantasies and BDSM deviances in porn, we can ogle all the rough, shameless sex we please without ever having to admit that there was a time we took the thought of banging the whole football team seriously under consideration.
Then there’s porn for couples. A lot of women in serious relationships explained that whilst porn in general didn’t interest them, their boyfriend’s personal collection held quite the appeal. They wanted to know more about what got his motor running, and liked the idea of sharing his favourite fantasies. This reason was surprisingly common, so guys, don’t be too afraid to share. We might decide that a schoolgirl outfit is exactly what we need to pick up next time we go shopping.
Finally, there’s simply getting off. Don’t look so shocked, women are just as inclined to have a bit of time alone as any guy, and porn is nothing if not for getting our jollies. In fact, many women found that porn made for a fantastic prelude to actual sex, getting them in the mood fast. Still think you should hide your porn collection from your girlfriend, guys? I think not.
