Desiree Holt is writing some of the most popular, sauciest erotica stories out there – and she’s a 77-year old widowed Granny living on a farm in Texas. Her repertoire of 150 sexy novels include stories about cowboys in the buff (which she terms cowboy kink), construction workers gone wild, male detectives who are too hot to handle, and she even dabbles in Twilight-esque erotica for grown-ups.
This granny has got game.
She hasn’t always been writing: she started off her career as a summer field guide, a ski competitor and a dab-hand at all things outdoors. She later joined the music business and represented musicians from songstresses to heavy metal wailers, and settled on a PR agency representing any client who caught her fancy.
With this kind of experience, it’s no wonder that she ended up with an entire arsenal of writing material, ready to unleash unto the erotica audience.
Holt started writing erotica in 2007 when she was 75; she now has an entire library under her writing wings and is hailed as the most amazing erotica author of our time. And what makes her so good? It’s not just about sex, she explains.
‘Erotic has a lot of meanings. It isn’t just the actual physical activity, the creation of the sexual tension and the seduction,’ she told Canton Rep. ‘I have a scene in one of my books where the hero and heroine are eating dinner and their reactions to the food and each other and how everything makes them feel. I’ve had readers tell me it’s better than some of the bedroom scenes I’ve written.’
Holt’s stories are just that: they’re stories that focus on the plots, the development of characters, and the real, raw emotions that people feel when they’re together – and when they’re alone. The women in her book aren’t pushing 21 and a tiny size 4 either, she says: ‘My heroines are in their late 30s to late 40s, and their figures are not perfect but they appeal to the men they appeal to. I want my readers to relate to my heroines, to look in the mirror and say, ‘I can do what she’s doing.’ ‘
She may have 150 books already to her name, but she’s not stopping there. Holt is writing for ten hours a day on her Texan ranch and is producing around 7,000 words each writing session. She’s also doing events with Ellora’s Cave, her publisher, to promote her books and we can expect to read plenty more from this positively sensational granny in the next few years!
