Their clients are successful, attractive, quality individuals who are serious about finding “the one.” They hire the matchmakers at Select Date Society to screen and vet potential matches for them and introduce them to quality singles.
Amber Lee & Sandra Myers are the Co-Founders of Select Date Society. The two women have both been working in the matchmaking industry since the late-1990’s and met when working for the same firm in 2009. Over the years, the two women found that they were finding success for their clients at a higher rate than the large, franchised organization they worked for. They started talking about the idea of opening their own firm, one where they could offer a higher level of service for their clients that would get results.
On May 10th, 2020, Amber experienced a traumatic medical emergency that nearly ended her life. She was driving when her heart suddenly stopped. With her foot still on the gas, she went unconscious and drove through several lanes of traffic and hit a brick home head on. Thankfully, she survived, and emergency medical responders were able to restart her heart with a defibrillator. When she woke up in the hospital several days later, she had a renewed sense of purpose. Realizing that life is short and tomorrow is not promised, Amber & Sandra decided to pursue their dream of owning their own matchmaking firm immediately! They got to work and launched Select Date Society just a few weeks later.
The two women had a huge advantage with a combined 50 years of experience and strong connections to other professionals in the matchmaking & dating industry. Amber believes the biggest challenge any business owner faces is hiring and keeping the right team. She says, “We are very fortunate that our team is made up of experienced matchmaking professionals that we have worked with previously for years.
We know each other’s strengths and shortcomings. We knew the work ethic we could expect from every single person on our team before they even started working for us.” Sandra agrees and she points out how much they value their team. Sandra says, “We truly believe that we are the Ritz Carlton of Matchmaking, so it’s important that, as business owners, we show our team exactly what that means. For our one-year anniversary, we flew our entire team to the Ritz Carlton in Charlotte and enjoyed a weekend together there. We wanted them to see first-hand just what a Ritz Carlton level experience felt like!”
Select Date Society strives to not be just another matchmaking firm, but the example of what a true luxury matchmaking firm should be. They work with a limited number of clients to provide them individual attention and a high level of service. The hard work they are doing has definitely paid off! During the past 18 months, they have been recognized in The New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Today, Newsweek, and more! Amber and Sandra have shared their story on podcasts and local new stations. They want to inspire other female entrepreneurs to go after their dreams.
They both agree that being an entrepreneur is challenging, but it is also immensely rewarding. They have achieved a higher level of success than they could have ever imagined and both women are still striving to grow the company and achieve even more. Not only have they reached a million dollars in revenue in their first year of business, but they have also already celebrated several client successes, with engagements and weddings already under their belt!
“It truly is an honor to be able to work with our amazing clients every day and to be a part in making their dreams come true,” says Sandra.
The biggest piece of advice that these Co-Founders have for others who have the entrepreneurial itch is to take action, now!
Amber says, “It’s crazy to think of where we might be if I never suffered from a sudden cardiac arrest. I wonder if we would still be working for other people and just dreaming about having a business of our own. I am so thankful for all the challenges we faced that ultimately catapulted us to launch the business. I often think about all of the couples we have introduced and I wonder where they would be if Select Date Society didn’t exist?”
