It’s important to point out that a certain situation will not increase the chances of your partner cheating on your or having an affair unless they’re that way inclined in the first place. A person that has never cheated or had an affair doesn’t generally just start behaving that way. It’s normally something they have been prone to in the past. Having said that there are always exceptions.
A person’s motivation for having an affair varies widely from person to person. There are lots of different reasons why a person cheat. Being frustrated or misunderstood in a marriage seems to be a common theme. Unresolved childhood trauma is another big trigger for adultery.
One thing that is likely to increase the chances of your partner having an affair, if they’re that way inclined, is spending a lot of one-on-one time with another person. The more time we spend with a person the more a bond begins to form, whether that bond is platonic or romantic is yet to be determined.
If your partner starts to form a romantic attachment to another person and they then find themselves alone for an evening with that person that can be the catalyst that takes the relationship from platonic to physical. Working away for long periods of time can also be a trigger for adultery but again only if the person is that way inclined in the first place. Periods of loneliness can cause people to behave in a way that they wouldn’t normally. Although loneliness should not be used as an excuse for adultery. If you find yourself in a lonely relationship then you need to address this with your partner. They may not understand how lonely you’re feeling. By talking about it with your partner you give them the opportunity to do something about it.
