Founder’s/Owner’s story and what motivated them to start the business

My motivation for starting this business was pure frustration with the healthcare system as a whole.  After working as a nurse for 25 years I had a good idea Of what the problems were and I was committed to being an example of what it could be.

First, families need support and guidance when caring for a loved one.  Sometimes that is as simple as an ear to hear their frustrations but also a willingness to go above and beyond to assist in any way.  Most agencies are not owned or run by a nurse or a healthcare professional so it’s business as usual.  Taylored care is all that the name implies.  We concentrate on Customer service, which has helped us grow tremendously through client referrals.

Second,  We focus on preventative care.  Some elderly do not feel they need help, until they fall and break a hip or worse.  Our goal is to help the elderly maintain their current health status and improve their quality of life.  As a nurse I am able to review medications and speak directly to doctors in reference to the clients progress or need for further treatment options.  I am able to partner with the primary caregiver (family member) to manage their loved ones care and offer advice in regards to the care plan and needs of the client.

The challenges the business/market is facing

The market is flooded with new agencies that are just trying to capitalize off of the current health crisis.  I have heard so many horror stories that lead people to search for a caregiver on their own.  This often does not end well, there is no supervision by a skilled professional and often no accountability.

At Taylored Care we perform background checks as well as supervise aides throughout the duration of care.  We start your service by making sure we find the right fit for you.  The most important part of your care is the relationship between you and your caregiver.  We provide a primary aide and a secondary aide so you always know the person who shows up to care for you! (no surprises)

The opportunities the business/market is facing

Homecare is in high demand.  The current health care crisis has increased that demand since no one wants to be in a nursing home nor rehab facility fearing exposure to germs.  Hospital stays have decreased tremulously due to lack of beds and also fear of exposure.  It has been three years of constant growth for Taylored Care.  We have had a positive impact in the lives of our clients and their families. We have also been an important asset to many facilities and group homes during the recent healthcare staffing crisis.

Advice to others about business

Focus on the quality of your service.  Good service will always grow your business.  Reputation is everything.

Try to survive your initial years in business without taking loans.  Cash flow will be an issue but loans only add to the problem.
