WEIGHT GAIN AND INFLAMMATION

WORST CARBS THAT LEAD TO WEIGHT GAIN AND INFLAMMATION?

What role do carbs play in metabolism, weight, and inflammation?

Carbohydrates are naturally inflammatory, especially the highly processed types like bread, which can spike blood glucose levels. Consuming them in excess can cause inflammation, which in turn reduces your metabolism. A slower metabolism suggests less fat burning, and may lead to weight gain.

What are some of the worst carbs out there that anyone who wants to lose weight should avoid and why?

Pasta

Are you looking to achieve your fitness goals and stay healthy? If so, please limit your intake of pastas, be it from whole grain or processed. Pasta comes from highly inflammatory carbs, which can cause weight gain and gastrointestinal issues.

White bread

White bread mainly supplies calories and almost zero nutrients to the body. It is inflammatory and likely to increase blood sugar levels. Moments after consumption can cause fatigue and mental issues, such as, reduced cognitive function.

What advice do you have for healthier alternatives/maintaining a low-carb diet?

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are starchy vegetables containing anti-inflammatory properties. They can be a great substitute to white bread and other inflammatory carbs. Also, they have a lower glycemic index, which reduces increase in blood glucose levels. They also have beta carotene and vitamin C to fight body inflammation.

Corn tortillas

Corn tortillas contain low glycemic index with less calories and high fiber. They are anti-inflammatory, and possibly reduce overeating due to their fiber content. As a result, they can help keep a healthy weight. But always cook them by yourself and limit the amount of oil used.
