ZUMBA

Can Zumba help with weight loss? Why or why not?

Of course, yes. But you have to input enough effort that will help create caloric deficit. For example, dancing at moderate to high intensity Zumba of at least thrice every week. Such a session can help burn calories ranging from 300-900. Do not forget to eat less that what is burnt to achieve weight loss.

Who should check with their doctor before trying Zumba? Any safety risks?

I recommend anybody with a medical condition to consult a doctor before joining a Zumba class. For example, individuals with;

  • Heart issues because the effort used may worsen the condition.
  • Senior adults, especially those that rarely exercise.
  • Joint inflammation; knee pain
  • Spinal injuries and back pain.
  • If you are not flexible; unless you ease your way into Zumba through stretches to avoid possible injuries.

 Is there anyone who shouldn’t do Zumba?

No. Anybody can do Zumba because it has no age limit, and does not need any prior skills. It may only be risky if you have a health condition- as mentioned earlier, which requires special attention before joining.

What health benefits are associated with Zumba? How often do people have to do Zumba to reap these benefits?

The benefits include;

  • Promoting heart health through aerobics
  • Enhancing mood
  • Increasing energy
  • Dance moves help improve coordination
  • Increasing flexibility and toning the core
  • Promoting weight loss

To optimize on these benefits, I recommend mid to high intensity sessions, three days every week.
