Itchy Nipples

Itchy Nipples

Itchy nipples can be a sign of anything, from physical irritation to inflammation to allergies. When itchy nipples develop, you may experience a tingling sensation, irritation, and general discomfort around the nipple area.

Causes of Itchy Nipples

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a woman experiences hormonal changes, increased blood flow, and breast enlargement. That is not all; breast heaviness, sore nipples, and tenderness are common during pregnancy. It is the above factors that trigger itchy nipples. Apply coconut oil or lanolin ointment on the nipples to free yourself from the chains of itchy nipples.

Menopause

We all know the levels of estrogen fall during menopause. This affects oil production, meaning the skin loses its ability to retain its natural moisture. In my skin health experience, this sets the stage for an itch, which can strike your vagina or nipples. Use mild cleansers, moisturizers, or warm showers to fight dryness and alleviate the itch.

Paget’s Disease

Normally, Paget’s Disease strikes the breast ducts first and spreads quickly to the nearby areas, including the nipples. The condition causes crusted, scaly, crusted, and itchy skin. Since it resembles eczema, you may want to try eczema treatments. If they fail to work, opt for surgery.
