America’s Porn Professor Takes a Break from Steamy Classes

An American professor who lectured in history and gender studies at Pasadena City College in California caused a stir recently, when he invited working porn stars to address his class. This was no ordinary gender studies class – the professor had put together a course called ‘Navigating Pornography’. The professor, Hugo Schwyzer, recently took time off from his controversial teaching post, and spoke to interviewers about the pitfalls of bringing sex into the classroom in such a raw way.

During his time teaching the course, the professor started sexting people in the porn business – Schwyzer’s field of academic interest also became something of an extra-mural hobby. It was Schwyzer’s public embarrassment, when one of the women he sexted leaked pics of his pecker online, which led him to take time off teaching.

In an interview, Schwyzer cited a visit by the porn actor James Deen as the catalyst for his descent into amateur exhibitionism. Deen – who has risen to prominence in the porn industry in recent years – is described by Schwyzer as having a ‘charisma’ which left the professor (as well as his students) hot under the collar.

After Schwyzer got more and more into his subject, he sexted several women and one man, not all of whom were in the porn industry. The professor put his wild behaviour down to his bi-polar and borderline personality disorders, for which he is now obtaining treatment. The professor was quick to come to the defence of porn, despite his actions, stressing that not all porn viewers indulge in the risky behaviour he did.

One could put the professor’s derailment down to his subject; it could be suggested that the steamy classroom environment was just too much stimulation for Schwyzer to keep from seeking his own sexual thrills. This isn’t the best argument, however. After all, a history professor specializing in the French Revolution is hardly likely to start an uprising and execute prominent political figures using a guillotine. Even though it looks unlikely that the professor’s porn class will still be offered if he returns to teach, he says he will turn to something else – teaching ‘Western Civilization’. In this case, lecture slides of facts and figures will replace talks by men and women with top-selling figures.
