CARROT CAKE RECIPE (WITH CBD)

Carrot cakes are an ideal way to fight summer’s hangovers as the winter blues go away slowly. They are sweet and good for your health since they use whole carrots. You can make the carrot cake recipe even more interesting by adding CBD to it, as shown in this article.

Carrots make great vegetables when eaten raw and when cooked. They are versatile and fit into many dishes, including carrot cakes.These cakes are filling since they use whole (not blended) carrots, helping you benefit from the satiating compounds in the vegetable. Besides, carrots boast many antioxidants, including polyphenols and carotenoids, making them great for the eye. What’s more, these vegetables boast many other compounds your body needs.According to da Silva Dias (2014), carrots boast many macro-and micro-nutrients that are good for your body. Do you enjoy making cakes at home? Add CBD to your carrot cake and see how wonderfully you can benefit from the cannabinoid without feeling its bitter and earthy taste. Here is all you need to know about CBD and CBD carrot cake.

The Basics of CBD

CBD has become part of the mainstream, and most industries are featuring it in different products. The supplement, skincare, and beauty industries are among the biggest proponents of CBD.Massi et al. (2006) and Bauer et al. (2020) defined CBD as a non-psychoactive chemical compound in cannabis plants, including hemp and marijuana. Such compounds are generally known as cannabinoids, and there are more than 100 of them in nature. What makes CBD outstanding? The studies above showed that CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not make one feel ‘high.’ According to Watt & Karl (2017), CBD is therapeutic, and many believe in such therapy. The non-psychoactive nature and the therapeutic claims are behind the growing popularity of CBD.

How to Take CBD

Many questions arise regarding CBD, including how to take it. CBD as a compound is not absorbable by the body. However, based on some compounds, including oils that the body can absorb, your cells can benefit from it. Here are some of the deliverable methods for the non-psychoactive cannabinoid;

  • CBD oils and tinctures are the primary means of delivering CBD to the body and are preferred by many for fast delivery and results. Still, many find them bitter and earthy and opt for alternatives.
  • CBD edibles include gummies, desserts, savory foods, drinks, and beverages that feature taste and flavors while delivering the cannabinoid. Still, they are slow in delivery since they undergo digestion before CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream.
  • CBD capsules; are also great at masking the bitter and earthy taste of CBD oils, although they are not flavored. Like CBD edibles, capsules go through the digestive tract and take time to deliver the cannabinoid and for the results to kick in.
  • CBD vapes; are yet another way to deliver CBD fast and experience the effects quickly. Still, according to the CDC (2020) report, they have many health risks, the major ones being lung damage, hospitalizations, and cancer.
  • High-CBD hemp flower; you can also smoke hemp flowers to deliver CBD to the body. While it is fast in delivering the cannabinoid and its effects, it may expose the user to carcinogens, increasing his chances of suffering from lung cancer.

How to Make CBD-infused Carrot Cake

Ingredients

You need two ingredients for the CBD-infused carrot cake; the cake and frosting.

  • 12 ml hemp CBD oil, preferably full- or broad-spectrum formulation
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoons of ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup real maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened almond or milk of your choice
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 large finely grated carrots, preferably fresh
  • 1/2 cup raisins (this is optional, and you may use a suitable alternative that promises the same results without extra calories)

The frosting takes the following ingredients;

  • 2 tablespoons of real maple syrup for sweetening the cake
  • 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for flavor

Procedure

Here are the steps for preparing CBD carrot cake with the ingredients above;

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (too much heat might cause some components to evaporate)
  • Spray non-stick spray on the 9X13 pan
  • Mix the dry ingredients (flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, nutmeg, and cloves) in one bowl and work on them with your hand to attain homogeneity.
  • Put the wet ingredients (eggs, maple syrup, coconut oil, Greek yogurt, CBD tincture, vanilla extract, and milk) in another bowl and stir to ensure they are fully combined.
  • Bring the wet and dry ingredients together and mix them, but do not overdo it.
  • Carefully fold the carrots and raisins into the dough with a silicone spatula to avoid contamination.
  • Transfer the mixture baking pan, and bake until the cake’s center is done (it should be about 25 minutes). You can use a toothpick or fork to determine if the cake is fully cooked. If the fork comes out clean, the cake is cooked, while having it stuck with the cake means you need more cooking time.
  • Put together the frosting ingredients and stir them to make icing for the cake.
  • Allow the cake to cool before frosting to avoid unnecessary melting
  • Serve the cake and enjoy

Conclusion

Carrots are great vegetables. They are versatile, hence fitting in many dishes. You can grate them and add them to smoothies with other vegetables. They are good for eye health, especially since they contain antioxidants. When making pudding or salad, carrots come in handy, so you don’t want to leave them out.
