INSECURITY

1. signs of insecurity

Jealous feelings

Insecure people feel inadequate and threatened by competition from others. They keep comparing themselves to others, hence acquiring negative emotions filled with jealousness.

Being unkind to yourself

Abusing or talking to yourself harshly could be a sign of insecurity. Perhaps you think motiving yourself through self-criticism or guilt feels better but it may be adding to your insecurity.

Fear of abandonment

A partner in a relationship may fear getting rejected. They may think their partner does not like them or are unhappy. As a result, you may begin taking things personally and interpreting concepts wrongly. This is another sign to watch out and it could mean the relationship is not doing well.

2. Tips to feel more secure in yourself

Therapy

A therapist can help open your eyes on your insecurity sources. Therapy can foster self-enhancement, coping skills for symptom management, and improved relationships. It also equips you with new skills, including directly asking for what you want and allowing for peaceful negotiations in conflicts.

Challenge your thinking

Think of what causes your insecurity and challenge it. Is it negativity or irritational thoughts? Determine and challenge it without believing anything related. This way, you will restructure your unhealthy thinking rhythm and with time it will be easier to identify them and provide quick solution.

Using the acquired academic and professional experience, I advise patients with various complaints about mental health - depressed mood, nervousness, lack of energy and interest, sleep disorders, panic attacks, obsessive thoughts and anxieties, difficulty concentrating, and stress. In my free time, I love to paint and go on long walks on the beach. One of my latest obsessions is sudoku – a wonderful activity to calm an unease mind.
