WHAT HAPPENS TO A SENSITIVE CBD OIL CONSUMER?

With CBD oil’s claimed health and wellness benefits, it can be tempting to try CBD oil. However, what if you are sensitive to CBD oil? CBD products are manufactured from organic hemp or cannabis plants, which contain various elements. Some of the common elements include terpenes, flavonoids, cannabidol (CBD), and tetrahydrocannabinol (CBD). Also, they are manufactured alongside various elements such as MCT oil, which might trigger sensitivity. Although the reaction is not common, it depends on hormones found in the body. Therefore, it is recommended to talk to a doctor before starting to use it. Avoid using other therapeutic drugs alongside CBD.

Cannabidiol

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound extracted from a cannabis plant known as the hemp plant grown in USA states like Kentucky, Colorado, and Vermont. The hemp plant used for CBD extraction must be non-GMO and organically grown. Using any chemical like pesticides will affect the quality of the CBD. There are two main methods used in the industrial extraction of CBD, the CO2 extraction method and the solvent extraction method. At home, one can extract CBD by using olive oil as an extraction solvent; the resulting CBD is of low quality because the olive oil remains in the CBD.

In CO2, the CO2 used is in a supercritical state that’s neither liquid nor a gas. The supercritical CO2 is pumped into a chamber with dry hemp plant materials to extract CBD. It also extracts materials like wax and fats, removed by distillation. The mixture is heated to turn the supercritical CO2 into a gas for later use. In solvent extraction, alcohol is used as a solvent; the common alcohol used is ethanol. The alcohol is pumped into a chamber with dry hemp plant materials; once the CBD is extracted, the crude CBD is heated to remove the alcohol. CDB extracted by solvent extraction normally does not require further distillation.

There are three types of CBD used in the processing of CBD oil, full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolated CBD. The full-spectrum has all the hemp plant terpenes, including THC, broad-spectrum has all terpenes except THC, and the isolate CBD is a pure form of CBD. The CBD is mixed with one or more carrier oil to make CBD oil. The common carrier oils are avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil, MCT oil, and hemp seed oil. CBD oil does not induce a high effect because of the low level (0.3%) of THC in the hemp plant. THC is the compound in marijuana that gives a high effect.

Can a Person Be Sensitive to CBD Oil?

CBD sensitivity results from how the endocannabinoid system is affected by CBD in the body. Everybody produces cannabinoids in the body. Therefore, taking CBD is trying to mimic the effect of cannabinoids. The natural response to cannabinoids differs from one person to another. Sensitivity may also be a result of cannabinoid allergy. The effects of CBD oil are not pronounced like those of other drugs or substances. This makes it difficult for one to realize the effect. However, for a CBD-sensitive person, the effect will be more than expected. There would be an increase in the intensity of CBD’s side effects. To avoid problems associated with sensitivity to CBD oil, start with a small dose and increase it gradually.

Side Effects of CBD Oil

Even though CBD oil does not have fatal side effects, it is better to know these effects and what can be done when one experiences such effects.

Interaction With Prescribed Drugs.

Taking CBD oil alongside prescribed drugs may not be a good idea because CBD can interfere with drug metabolism in the liver. After all, it can block CYP450, an enzyme that breaks down drugs. It can also cause drugs to have a stronger effect than normal. It is better to check with your doctor before taking CBD oil or notifying your doctor that you are using CBD oil before the prescription.

Nausea

Nausea can be an indication of wanting to vomit due to stomach upset. This can be caused by taking more CBD oil than the normal dosage or indicating sensitivity to CBD oil. For beginners, it’s better to start with a small dose and increase it gradually to the full recommended dose.

Dry Mouth

Dry mouth or cottonmouth is another common side effect of CBD oil caused by CBD blocking the production of saliva or the brain sending signals that result in reduced secretion of saliva in the mouth. The best solution is to stay hydrated after taking CBD oil.

Gastrointestinal Effect

CBD increases movements in the digestive system which is a good thing but not for people with irritable bowel syndrome because it increases the chances of diarrhea.

Conclusion

There is nothing to worry about for those who think they are sensitive to CBD oil because the effects of CBD oil are not fatal sometimes. You may not notice them because they are subtle. Such effects can be avoided by starting with a lower dose than recommended and increasing it gradually to the one you are comfortable with. If you have any medical condition or are using prescribed drugs, you can consult a doctor before using CBD oil. And always ensure that the CBD oil you are buying is a CBD product and of high-quality CBD oil products from a reputable company.
