Manipulation refers to skillfully exploiting, controlling, or influencing others for personal gain.
What Are The 4 Stages of Manipulation?
Target Stage
Here, the manipulator may;
• Look for a vulnerable target, including sad or lonely young people
• Put in more effort to know the target’s interest.
• Befriend the target, pretending they care for them
Friendship-Building Stage
The manipulator may;
• Bring the target closer, making them feel special
• Want the target to conceal their secrets
• Protect the target from bullying peers or unfriendly adults
Loving Relationship Stage
After making the target trust them, the manipular may;
• Build a sexual relationship
• Becomes the target’s lover (Boyfriend or Girlfriend)
Abusive Relationship Stage
In this stage, the manipulator may;
• Quit the relationship
• Introduce the target in human trafficking, especially for sex
• Forcefully want sex with the target.
Manipulation Tactics
The common manipulation technique is lying and denial, where manipulators fill the target with lies and deny their words when their plans fail. To be on the safer side, I advise you to confront the behavior. This helps you to get a sense of reality about what happened. Are you a victim of manipulation? If yes, you are not alone, and it’s not your fault.
