Cisgender

Cisgender

Cisgender (sometimes called cissexual or cis) refers to a person’s gender identity not their sexual orientation. A person that calls themselves cisgender is a person that identifies with their assigned at birth gender. For example, if a person was assigned the gender of female at birth and that person identifies as female that person is cisgender.

A person that doesn’t identify with their assigned at birth gender is called transgender or trans for short. Other people that don’t identify as either cisgender or transgender may refer to themselves as non-binary.

People often confuse cisgender and straight as the same thing which they’re not. If a person identifies as straight, they are talking about their sexual orientation not their gender. They are two different things. However, a person can be cisgender and straight.

Using the acquired academic and professional experience, I advise patients with various complaints about mental health - depressed mood, nervousness, lack of energy and interest, sleep disorders, panic attacks, obsessive thoughts and anxieties, difficulty concentrating, and stress. In my free time, I love to paint and go on long walks on the beach. One of my latest obsessions is sudoku – a wonderful activity to calm an unease mind.
