EMOTIONAL ABUSE

Why It’s So Important That We See Accurate Depictions Of Emotional Abuse On TV.

The problem with emotional abuse is it can easily go unnoticed compared to physical abuse. A person knows for sure whether they are being physical abused but emotional abuse can be much more subtle and happen over a longer period of time.

A person may be experiencing emotional abuse and not even realize it. By showing emotional abuse scenarios on TV and putting a name to it it can help other people to realize that they are experiencing a similar situation. This can then give them the confidence to either confront their partner about it or make plans to leave them.

By showing these types of scenarios on TV it brings the subject to the surface, raises awareness and gets people talking about it. By bringing problems such as emotional abuse to the surface it makes it harder for people to brush it under the carpet. The recent #MeToo campaign is a perfect example of this.
