COMMON FOOD INTOLERANCES

///

Food intolerance may seem common to some people. However, itcanlead to unbearable symptoms if not unattended, includingvomiting, nausea, and even bloating.

Food intolerance occurs when the body’s immune reacts to a particular food. It usually includes food sensitivity and allergy. Food allergies are tested through a blood test which includes measuring IgE antibodies. However, identifying food sensitivity is somehow challenging since it requires a lot of keenness. You can identify food intolerance by eliminating diet. Here, all you need to do is to reintroduce the food once again and note the reaction. It would help if you were more cautious so that you don’t find yourself with only a restrictive diet.

While carrying out diet elimination, you are supposed to keep a diary of the food. This is because sometimes the symptoms can be affected by the menstruation cycle, mood, and weather. After that, you can decide which food you are going to eliminate. As such, here are the common food intolerances to note.

Eggs

Eggs are very common in the list of allergic food for kids. The proteincontent in eggs also causes sensitivity in some adults. Usually, the egg whites contain a lot of these proteins. This means you can eliminate them from your diet if they are causing any reactions. However, sometimes you can reintroduce them but try the egg white and egg yolk to note which one reacts. If you have egg sensitivity, follow the same diet as one with an egg allergy to avoid the symptoms.

Shellfish

You can experience food intolerance symptoms when you take shellfish because marine creatures contain proteins. Common examples of shellfish include shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters, crabs, and scallops.

Dairy Products

People who are very sensitive to food should avoid all dairy products since they can cause skinreactions, IG, or even respiratory symptoms. This happens because a lot of people are lactose intolerant, meaning they have insufficient lactose in their bodies. Lactose is a digestive enzyme responsiblefor digesting lactose sugar, which is available in all dairy products. Besides, a dairy product has a protein content known as casein whose digestion may be difficult, thus leading to inflammation along with the digestive system. If one wants to eliminate dairy products from their diet, milk, ice cream, cheese, and butter should not be included. This is because these products are obtained from sheep, goats, and cows.

Peanuts

Peanuts are usually at the top of the allergic food. Even those who don’t experience any allergic reaction from eating peanuts can still experience sensitivity. Peanuts are not the real nuts, but they are in the class of leguminous plants. The symptoms of peanut intolerance include digestion and respiratory symptoms.

Corns

As per the studies, corns are among the top foods that cause IBS symptoms. However, it isn’t easy to eliminate corn since it is a major component in almost all foods. Usually, the foods are in the form of corn syrup with high fructose content. Always remember to read the label carefully.

Beef, Lamb, and Pork

Other people experience sensitivity when they eat animal meat. This may be sometimes connected with how the animal is reared. Livestock that is reared conventionally primarily feed on soy and corn instead of pasture and grasses. On the contrary, these animals are given antibiotics and hormones, which can affect the meat.

If you experience some symptoms after eating meat, you can try meat from animals raised with pasture. However, this is the hardest thing to do since you will have to carry out a food elimination challenge. You willalsoneed to compare the meat from pasture-reared animals and the one that feeds on soy and corn.

Gluten

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. An individual suffering from celiac disorder should avoid gluten completely. However, you can also experience gluten symptoms even without celiac disease. There is proof that gluten sensitivity may lead to IBS in some people. Moreover, gluten is suspected to be the major cause of various behavior and health problems.

Soy

Soy is well known as a major cause of allergy in kids. Butsome adults can also experience IBS symptoms when they eat any product based on soy. Just like corn, soy also is found in almost all the processed food products. Therefore, if you are sensitive to soy, you are supposed to read the labels carefully to avoid it.

Coffee

Alot of people have reported that their bowls get stimulated when they drink coffee. This may be a good thing for some individuals. However, to others, the chemical and protein content in coffee may lead to undesirable digestive symptoms. If coffee is among your list of food that you will eliminate, you will be required to quit it slowly toprevent withdrawal symptoms.

High FODMAPs Foods

High FODMAPs food is a group of carbohydrates that are osmotic, fermentable, and poorlyabsorbed. These types of foods tend to cause digestive symptoms to other people. Research affirms that when people with IBS take foods containing low FODMAPs, the symptoms reduce by 75%.

If you have IBS, you won’t have an alternative but to avoid food with high FODMAPs completely. You can also change your diet to a food with low FODMAPs. However, those who experience the symptoms should try a diet elimination challenge.

The Bottom Line

Many people experience food sensitivity and allergy symptoms but see it as a common thing. However, some food intolerance symptoms may be unbearable, including nausea, bloating, and even vomiting. Food intolerance occurs whenthe body’s immune reacts to a particular food. It usually includes food sensitivity and food allergy. The common foods that can cause reactions and allergies include eggs, gluten, soy, coffee, and high FODMAPs foods.
