5 Health Habits That Can Add a Decade to Your Life

According to a study conducted by Harvard scientists, these are the 5 health habits that add 10 years to your life.

Exercise Regularly

Engaging in regular physical activity allows you to manage your weight. This promotes your cardiovascular health and prevents or reverses systematic inflammations at bay or reverses it. Systematic inflammation is mostly linked to heart disease, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes. With these life-threatening conditions pushed away, you are more likely to live longer.

Moderating Your Alcohol Consumption

Consuming alcohol at heavy levels may cause cancers, liver damage, and cardiovascular disease. With these health issues at your doorstep, you are less likely to have a long life. What if you moderate your consumption? It positively affects your life expectancy, right?

Quit Smoking

Smoking floods dangerous chemicals into your system, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Since these are among the top causes of death, quitting smoking means you can live longer. Who doesn’t want that?

Follow A Low-Cholesterol Diet

A low-cholesterol diet comprises fruits, vegetables, and plant-based foods. These contain reasonable amounts of saturated fats and insoluble fiber that reduce the risk of heart disease and improve your general body health. Improved heart and body health translates to a longer life.

Have a Healthy Body Mass Index (BMI)

A healthy BMI (18.5 to 24.9) is considered a normal weight. However, the healthy body weight range will heavily depend on your height. A low BMI (below 18.5) is categorized as underweight. On the other hand, one with a high BMI can either be overweight or obese. The former has a BMI of 25.0 to 29.9 while the latter30.0 or above. The consequences of having a high BMI include high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and depression. In my medical experience, the aforementioned culprits reduce the chances of living longer.
