CBD AND SLEEP DISORDERS

CBD AND SLEEP DISORDERS

Sleep problems are a set of conditions that interfere with regular sleep ability. These problems may be due to health conditions or stress. In recent times, this has become a common problem among many people, so they are looking for a few people trying to find a suitable cure for this disease. The main causes of sleep disorders have been identified as depression, busy times, and other external influences. If these disorders regularly affect a person and interfere with their routine, they may be called sleep disturbances.

Facts on Sleep Disorders

In various cases, a person may have difficulty getting to bed, so they feel very tired all day. As a result, a person may have a negative attitude, concentration, and general health. In a few cases, sleep disorders are one of the symptoms of an underlying medical condition, so these sleep disorders quickly disappear, and the underlying condition is treated.

If sleep disorders are not the result of another medical condition, appropriate diagnosis and similar treatment are highly recommended. It could be medical changes or lifestyle. It is very important for anyone who suspects a sleep disorder to seek treatment because these problems affect functioning in various areas of daily life and can easily lead to conflict in relationships.

Sleep disorders are insomnia, apnea, parasomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Each of them has different syndromes and side effects.

CBD and Sleep Disorders

CBD is a chemical in cannabis that refers to any product derived from the cannabis sativa plant, commonly called marijuana. Marijuana reference refers to a cannabinoid known as THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, which has a psychoactive effect and produces pleasurable effects, such as a feeling of superiority. A study by Babson, et al. (2017), showed that CBC may help with sleep disorders. According to the World Health Organization, there is currently no evidence of any public health problems related to CBD use. Although authorization has changed in recent years, you can still access CBD in many parts of the United States within certain limits. The FDA has approved a single product of the CBD drug called Epidiolex, which treats seizures associated with epilepsy.

How CBD Works in the Human body

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a system in the human body that controls a series of functions and processes by signaling cells. It produces endocannabinoids, including anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG). Endocannabinoids bind to receptors, two of which are CB1 in the central nervous system and CB2 receptors in the central nervous system. THC binds to ECS receptors, producing a range of side effects associated with high sensitivity, including reduced pain, increased appetite, and increased paranoia and anxiety. However, CBD binds to CB1 or CB2 receptors separately or another receptor altogether. This results in positive CBD-related effects related to pain, immune function, sleep and stress, and known side effects.

CBD and Insomnia and Other Sleep Disorders

The FDA has not yet approved CBD products to help with insomnia and other sleep disorders. It has not yet determined the quality of CBD ingredients distributed in the United States. However, the 2017 study below may help an interested user who wants to try CBD for the first time. Other evidence suggests that current CBD products may promote improved sleep and mental health.

CBD and Insomnia

Insomnia is defined as difficulty sleeping, falling asleep, and waking up very early in the morning. Previous research by Suraev, et al. (2020)., suggested that CBD may have therapeutic potential in treating chronic insomnia. It can help with both insomnia and shortness of breath. Although low doses of CBD have a stimulating effect, high doses can relieve people with insomnia. In the study groups, people with insomnia who ate CBD 160mg per day experienced prolonged sleep and reduced sleep disturbances.

CBD and Excessive Daytime Sleepiness Disorder

Notable for the natural feeling of sleep during normal waking hours, excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a common medical condition, sleep disturbances, and other medical conditions. While high doses of CBD can promote sleep, low doses of CBD stimulate. They can improve alertness in response to excessive daytime sleep disturbances. A study by Murillo-Rodríguez, et al. (2014).,  showed that CBD may help reduce the effects of excessive daytime sleepiness.

CBD With Anxiety and Depression to  Improve Sleep

Research by Shannon, & Opila-Lehman, (2016)., indicated that CBD is a therapeutic solution to anxiety-related problems, such as general anxiety, panic, forced mental disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. With minimal effects on sleep and health concerns, CBD effectively treats anxiety and depression disorders. Since anxiety disorders are closely linked to sleep disorders, it is logical that reducing stress may also improve sleep.

CBD and REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) occurs when people lose muscle strength during REM sleep and nightmares, which in some cases cause people to act on their dreams. Although research is limited, one by Chagas, et al. (2014).,suggested that CBD may suppress these behaviors.

CBD in Chronic Pain to Improve Sleep

Chronic pain interferes with normal sleeping patterns. A study by Capano, et al. (2020)., combined the use of CBD in chronic pain, andshowed improved sleep duration and quality. In contrast, others have not found changes during sleep but have shown improved sleep quality.

Types of CBD Products Used

The FDA currently selects many CBD products as additives, meaning that companies cannot make medical or health claims. Currently, there are no regulations regarding CBD quality, and there is not enough guidance on proper dosages. The types of CBD oils and products used include:

  • Oral solutions, such as the FDA-approved Epidiolex
  • Pills and capsules
  • Oils and tinctures
  • Foods, such as CBD sleep gummies, cookies, and beverages
  • Topical solutions, such as lotions and lotions
  • Vape pens
  • Oral CBD sleeping sprays

Conclusion

Sleeping disorders have become very common among a majority of the population due to internal and external factors that affect the human body. These sleep disorders cause a malfunction and productivity in their daily activities hence an urgent need for a remedy. CBD oil and products have proven to be one of the most efficient remedies for different sleeping disorders.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
