CRISPS

CRISPS

What makes crisps so addictive – their taste, ingredients, fat to sugar ratio, etc.

How many potato crisps can you eat in one sitting? Is it possible to settle on one? Well, you are not alone. I have heard funny narrations about addiction for crisps from my clients, and the main question asked is why they cannot have one crisp. Well, these are the reasons;

Associating the crunchy sound with freshness

Have you tested a crunchy food that lacks crunchiness or a sound upon biting? You may want to confirm its expiry date or staleness no matter how spicy it is. Most individuals link noisiness of a crunchy bite with freshness of the product. The louder the noise, the more the eater may perceive it to be fresher, crispier, thus increasing desire to pick more pieces.

Dopamine release

People do not simply get crisp addiction because of the ingredients used and taste, there is something else. Crisps are loaded with salts, sugars, and fats. Studies indicate that eating salt can stimulate the release of happy chemicals, including dopamine that communicates to the brain’s reward center, leading to more craving.
