Technology has democratized dying, death and grief. With the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (Al), it has become much easier to create “digital avatars” that keep us at the fingertips of our family and friends long after we are gone.
What is Al Anyway?
Al is short for Artificial Intelligence. The term was coined in 1956 by john McCarthy, referring to giving software or computer-controlled robots the ability to think like human beings. The digital avatars we create for remembrance after our death are a good example of Al-powered systems. They interact intelligently; hence can hold our ideas after we are long gone.
Impact (Both Positive and Negative) Of Using Tech To “Interact” With Dead Loved Ones
Digital avatars we create based on our online selves make us remembered for a long time. However, frequent interaction can hinder our loved ones from moving on in life, which is not a good thing.
