How do you deal with verbal abuse?

From my experiences, the best way to deal with verbal mental is to avoid blaming yourself for the situation. Trust your guts and feelings when you feel that someone is verbally abusing you and weigh the benefits of focusing on getting what is best. Have positive thoughts about what you think others say about you and seek relationships with people that value you.

How does verbal abuse affect a person? (effects)

Frequent verbal abuse can impact one overall wellbeing negatively. It can trigger mental conditions such as anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, inadequacy feelings, increased sense of worthlessness, social isolation, chronic stress, intense guilt, shame or hopelessness, problems in trusting people, and drug abuse.

How do you respond when someone is verbally attacking you?

I recommend you stay silent at first and curb your reactions. Listen and interrupt in polite and confident ways as you ask them the reasons for their abusive words. Walkway or ask help from those close to you.

Tips to do

I suggest you seek counseling or therapy, whether individually or with your partner.

Talk to the abuser, pinpoint the exact statements that irritate you, and express how you feel about it.

Set effective boundaries on the things that are not encouraged by the abuser.

Avoid shifting blame onto you for other individuals’ mistakes.

Please don’t fight or respond to their abuses; instead, walk away, especially when things are escalating.

Never ignore your thoughts or instincts and emotions.
