OVERSTIMULATION IN THE WORKPLACE

Why people may experience overstimulation in the office, what this may feel like, and how it can best be handled.

Overstimulation at the workplace may be de to assignments and work pressures that are unequal to an employee’s knowledge, thus overwhelming their coping mechanism. Employees may also feel a lack of support from the managers and colleagues. Well, pressure at work may be a normal thing but if it gets unmanageable, stress may arise, leading to health issues and a drop in performance. Other reasons could be poor work design, unsatisfactory working circumstances, and poor work organization or management.

Tips for handling

During my career, I recommended the following tricks to my clients;

  • Consider meditation for relaxing the mind.
  • Consult a psychologist or professional counsellor.
  • Organize yourself properly in the office ensuring your schedule is properly adhered to. Handle simple tasks first.
  • Consider changing your job if the problem takes longer without a solution, despite inputting effort.
  • Determine the required changes that can help lower your workplace overstimulation, and deal with what you can before reaching out to others in areas requiring cooperation from others.
