Pain
Shingles cause damaged nerve fibers or postherpetic neuralgia. When your nerve fibers cannot function properly, there will be a miscommunication between your skin and brain. This leads to chronic pain that won’t go away quickly.
Redness
When shingles attack, you will experience a tingling or burning sensation in the affected area. After some days, a red rash will form. The rush then develops into chickenpox-like blisters.
Swelling
Postherpetic neuralgia causes a swollen cornea. The condition can also cause a swollen retina.
Why They Could Lead to Blindness
Damaged nerve fibers cause an unhealthy cornea. This increases the risk of short-term or permanent blindness.
