1. What are different causes of upper back pain?
Poor posture
Some people experience upper back pain following a bent torso when they stand. It may bend to the side instead of aligning with the spine.
Back sprains or strains
An injured upper back muscle can cause pain. It could be after lifting heavy or executed improper form when exercising, and possibly injuring ligaments and tendons in the back.
2. How can thoracic spine stretches help?
Stretches help increase thoracic mobility, which maximizes posture and loosens tight muscles, helping relieve pain.
3. What are a few thoracic spine stretches to help ease upper back pain? Please provide instructions (and images if applicable) for each
I recommend the following;
Overhead arm reach
- Stand or sit
- Interlace your arms above the head
- Shift your upper body to the left with hands straight
- Go back to standing
- Change to the other side
- Doo it several times
Neck flexion
Sit or stand
- Lower your chin to your chest, then stop and hold at the point of mild discomfort.
- Keeping the chin low, rotate your head to the right shoulder, and stay here for some seconds.
- Take your head back to starting position
- Repeat the movement for other side.
- Do this several times
