CANCER RISK

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN VITAMIN DEFICIENCIES AND CANCER RISK?

What’s the mechanisms involved?

Research proves that deficiency of some minerals and vitamins, including folate, vitamins B12, B6, C, iron, and zinc, can damage DNA, leading to cancer. Depletion of these vitamins in cells triggers DNA breakage by substituting deoxythymidine with deoxyuridine for incorporation into DNA.

How much of a risk do certain deficiencies pose?

Lacking enough of certain minerals and vitamins can pose life-threatening risks. For example, vitamin D deficiency can lead to abnormal immunoregulation, rickets, infectious illnesses, and osteomalacia. Other risks of insufficient vitamins in the body are memory loss, breath shortness, rapid heart rate, and vision loss.
