What are 3-4 fruits or types of fruits someone should avoid if they frequently experience bloating & indigestion?
Apples
While apples are filled with vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants that can improve digestion, they can cause or worsen bloating. They have a hard to digest sugar called fructose.
Pears
Similar to apples, pears have fiber and antioxidants. But they contain sorbitol that some individuals find hard to digest, thus causing bloating. If you must eat it, I recommend cooking to reduce the toughness.
Are there any fruits that may help prevent this?
Definitely, yes. For example;
Bananas
Eating bananas is healthy and helps in digestion. They contain fiber and potassium that manage sodium amounts in the body, which alters water retention. They also increase growth of the good gut bacteria that enhances digestion, keeping you free from bloating.
Pineapples
Pineapples were traditionally known for helping with digestive issues. While research is not clear about this, pineapples have fiber and bromelain enzymes that reduce stomach complaints. Even research suggests that pineapple juice lowered bowel inflammation in mice.
Tomatoes
If you have malabsorption, Crohn’s disease, or bloating problems, I recommend eating tomatoes. They supply us with prebiotics that increase gut bacteria growth.
