Hand Cramps

Are Hand Cramps a Common Complaint?

Hand cramps are extremely common. Although they can affect anyone, hand cramps are more common among musicians and writers.

Conditions that Cause Hand Cramps

Electrolyte imbalances

Electrolytes regulate nerve and muscle function, blood pressure, hydration and blood pressure. If you have abnormalities in electrolyte levels, you are more likely to experience muscle spasms and hand cramps.

Overuse Injuries

When you repeat movements for too long, the muscles in your hand can become tense. This can cause hand cramps.

Dehydration

Dehydration leads to decreased blood flow to your muscles. This affects muscle function, causing muscle spasms and cramps.

Diabetic Stiff Hand Syndrome

This condition causes thick and waxy fingers, affecting your hand function. As a result, you are more likely to develop hand cramps.

Carpal tunnel

Carpel tunnel can lead to median nerve damage. Due to this, you might experience muscle twitching and hand cramps.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects muscle function, leading to hand cramps.
