BEST YOGA EXERCISES FOR FLEXIBILITY AND TONING?

The best exercises for flexibility and muscle toning and I need a yoga expert to help me out! What would you say are the best simple poses/exercises to get these results, and can you provide a step by step process for doing them?

I find the following poses beneficial to my clients. They include;

Plank pose

The plank is wonderful for strengthening and toning the obliques, shoulders and abductors. Consistently doing it helps tone the core and midsection. To do it;

  • Get on fours with your forearms on the surface, ensuring the shoulders are directly in line with the wrists.
  • Move your feet by stepping back with toes on the surface and heels facing the ceiling.
  • Tuck in your core, and stay here for one minute.
  • Do it again thrice for at least three days in a week.

Chair pose

If you want to tone the lower body, including your quads and glutes, I recommend doing this pose. To do it;

  • Stand with legs two-feasts apart.
  • Be firm in the four corners of your feet.
  • Raise your arms into the space as you move your shoulder blades away from your ears.
  • Lower your hips as if sitting on an imaginary chair, transferring your weight to your heels.
  • Hold the pose for 10 counts
  • Do this 5 to 6 times.

Additionally, do you have any other tips and tricks for improving flexibility and toning muscles?

Focus on stretching and strengthening

If you think flexibility is majorly obtained through stretching, that may not be right. Achieving high mobility or range of motion requires both flexibility and strength in equal measures. You may have strong muscles but if they are not flexible, you may have problems even in your exercise performance. I recommend doing yoga, barre, or Pilates to acquire more strength and flexibility.

Incorporate flexibility training in your routine exercises

Frequent exercisers mostly neglect flexibility exercises. But I always tell my clients to add things like foam rolling and stretching, either before or after working out to gain more flexibility to enhance their performance in other workouts. I also advise on joining a yoga or Pilates class for more practice.
