Removal procedure

DPN-initiated bumps can be removed through surgery using topical anesthesia. The methods used mostly leave scarring, and bumps may reappear. They include;

  • Cryosurgery- A specialist uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the bumps.
  • Electrocautery- This procedure uses an electric current to burn down the bumps.
  • Curettage- Uses a small tool to scoop away the bumps.

Procedure;

  • Washing the face
  • Numb the face with a numbing cream
  • Bumps are removed using any of the above methods or tools, such as, scissors
  • Application of a petroleum jelly to the open wounds

What the risks are

DPN removal may have a few risks, for example;

  • Dark marks
  • Scarring
  • Burns
  • Pain
