1) What are your thoughts about the study/findings?
I think people should engage in exercise, change their diet, and doctors need to enlighten PD patients about how they can improve their life quality and longevity.
2) Can you provide a clear definition of what the “Alternative Healthy Eating Index” is and its purpose?
It is a tool used for rating diet quality, basing on your frequency of eating some foods, such as, vegetables or fruits. It ranges from 0- nonadherence to 110- perfect alignment. It is meant to help people adopt a healthy eating pattern aligning with the recommended dietary guidelines to lower the risk of chronic illnesses.
3) Can you weigh in on the specific eating habits you should take away/apply to your life in order to reduce Parkinson’s risk mortality based on this study?
Consuming enough legumes, nuts, and whole grain lowers the risk of death. Reducing the intake of red meat and processed meats also decreases mortality risk by 31%.
4) Is there anything else you’d like to add? Please provide your name, full credentials, email, and professional website or LinkedIn account. Thank you!
Of course, yes. Men and women of all ages should maintain a healthy lifestyle by staying physically active and eating a healthy and balanced diet for an improved quality of life and life expectancy- regardless of not having PD. If you have PD, I always recommend considering a Mediterranean Diet to ensure your food intake adheres to the recommended dietary guidelines.
