Lube Alternatives

Lube Alternatives

Are there safe natural lube alternatives that people can use? If so, what are these alternatives? What do people need to know about lube alternatives in general and specific to a common or recommended alternative (i.e., are they safe for some things and not others — such as safe for the body but not for use with a condom?)

One of the most popular natural lube alternatives is sweet almond oil. Not only does it smell great but it also lasts a long time meaning less time spent reapplying it. It’s important to note though that almond oil cannot be use with latex condoms. This is also true with any other oils or oil-based lubes as they oil can cause the condom to break.

Coconut oil is another popular natural lube alternative. Try find an organic one if possible so you know the coconuts haven’t been grown using pesticides. As an added bonus coconut oil also taste great too. It absorbs into your skin meaning minimal mess and leaves your skin nicely moisturized. Buy unrefined or virgin organic coconut oil as it’s the least processed and shouldn’t contain bleach like the refined coconut oil. Be aware though as coconut oil can cause staining to your clothes and sheets. I’d advise against using coconut oil with condoms.

Aloe Vera makes another great natural lube alternative. Unlike oil-based lubes aloe vera is water-based so it can be used with condoms. Stay away from aloe vera products with added ingredients that may cause irritation to the skin. Find a pure aloe vera product.

Aim to find lubes that don’t contain any of the following ingredient’s petroleum, parabens, glycerin or any other sugars. You may wish to also look out for the term ”organic” on the lubricant. This means the lube is free from any additives such as artificial fertilizers, pheromones and synthetic chemicals.

What, If Any, Common Lube Alternatives Do People Use That Aren’t Safe in Any Circumstance?

Lubes that should be avoided include body lotions, petroleum jelly, butter, baby oil and spit. This is due to an increased risk of infection.
Are There Reasons A Person May Choose to Use a Lube Alternative? Lube alternatives can be much cheaper than sex lubes. You can also ensure that the ingredients won’t harm or irritate your skin as you can find a natural alternative.
