Male Yeast Infections

Male Yeast Infections

Male yeast infections or penile yeast infections are fungal infections that mainly attacks the head of your penis and foreskin. When ignored, male yeast infections can result in an inflamed penis head, which we medically refer to as balanitis.

How is the Infection Birthed?

We all have candida in our skin. When you have unprotected sex with a woman with a vaginal yeast infection, candida, a common fungus, overgrows, resulting in male yeast infection. This shows that yeast infection is not a thing for women alone.

Risk factors for Male Yeast Infections

  • Overweight
  • Diabetes
  • Compromised immune system
  • Steroids

How is Male Yeast Infection Diagnosed?

A healthcare provider will ask for your medical history, including the symptoms of the infection. They will also examine your penis for any signs related to yeast infection. For further clarification, the doctor will obtain a sample from the tip of your penis using a swab. The sample is usually sent to the lab for testing before the doctor recommends the treatment method.

Treatments

Once the laboratory results are back, the healthcare provider will recommend the right treatment, which may include;

  • Fluconazole, which is taken orally
  • Hydrocortisone, a steroid cream you can easily apply to your penis
  • Antifungal cream

The work of a family doctor includes a wide range of clinical diversity, which requires extensive knowledge and erudition from a specialist. However, I believe that the most important thing for a family doctor is to be human because the cooperation and understanding between the doctor and the patient are crucial in ensuring successful health care. On my days off, I love being in nature. Since childhood, I have been passionate about playing chess and tennis. Whenever I have time off, I enjoy traveling around the world.
