REFILLABLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

REFILLABLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

-How have you seen the skincare industry changing in terms of sustainability since the start of the pandemic to now?

The trend is wonderful to the environment. Refilling has helped reduce environmental pollution because of using the same beauty products by mainly tossing in a new or different refill. It is also economical because it offers financial incentives to consumers, especially in recession.

-Have you noticed products becoming “cleaner” and/or packaging more sustainable?

Of course, yes. I have seen numerous good looking and convenient types, including brands from Kerastase and Diptyque. I find some of them too beautiful to discard.

-In your experience, do refillable beauty products tend to be “cleaner” or of higher quality than others?

I came to realize that bath and body beauty products are safer and cleaner compared to facial creams and serums. Facial products mostly have several active ingredients that may not work well by refilling.

-Is there anything to watch out for with refillable products in terms of efficacy, or can you really keep filling, say, deodorant, lipstick, moisturizers for years without any issues in performance?

It is possible. I recommend choosing brands that manufacture products with replaceable pots, which click directly into the jars keeping them airtight.

-Is there anything that for hygienic reasons you might not want to buy a refillable product in (i.e. maybe mascara)?

Definitely, yes. Refillable products are great, but sanitation maybe an issue, especially because the new seals may not be air tight enough to preserve the contents. Also, products with numerous ingredients may not be kept fresh if all of them do not self-preserve, and may cause health issues.
