VITAMIN B9

VITAMIN B9

1) What are your thoughts on the research/findings?

I recommend more intake of folate foods to slow aging-associated memory loss and prevent dementia.

 2) How is vitamin B9 connected to a heightened risk of dementia?

Due to DNA damage and oxidative stress resulting from high homocysteine levels, older individuals suffer brain atrophy. A drop in vitamin B9 causes homocysteine increase, leading to dementia and cognitive impairment.

 3) What are good sources of vitamin B9?

  • Peanuts
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Green leafy veggies
  • Beans
  • Whole grains
  • Liver
  • Fresh fruits

4) Are there any reasons why people shouldn’t be taking vitamin B9 / any concerns regarding vitamin B9?

Intaking Vitamin B9 in larger amounts than advised can bring serious side effects. Research suggests that more than 1. 2 mg folic acid daily consumption can cause cancer and heart attack risks, mainly in people with pre-existing heart conditions.

 5) Is there anything else you’d like to add? Thank you so much!

Pregnant mothers should consider the daily intake of folic drugs one month before conception and throughout the first semester. This prevents extreme birth defects, including spina bifida.

The work of a family doctor includes a wide range of clinical diversity, which requires extensive knowledge and erudition from a specialist. However, I believe that the most important thing for a family doctor is to be human because the cooperation and understanding between the doctor and the patient are crucial in ensuring successful health care. On my days off, I love being in nature. Since childhood, I have been passionate about playing chess and tennis. Whenever I have time off, I enjoy traveling around the world.
