Lowers the Risk of Periodontal Disease
Flossing and brushing on a regular basis removes or prevents plaque and frees your mouth from bacteria. This reduces the risk of periodontal disease.
Prevents Dental Cavities
Because flossing and brushing remove or prevents plaque formation and wash away food debris, you are less likely to suffer tooth decay. With tooth decay out of your way, chances of developing dental cavities reduce.
Is It Best to Floss Before or After Brushing Your Teeth?
As a credentialled dentist, I advise you to floss before brushing your teeth. Flossing before brushing ensures no food particles remain in your mouth. As a result, you are less likely to suffer dental plaque that is often associated with gum disease.
What Are A Few Tips for Proper Flossing, Brushing, And Rinsing?
Flossing
- Wind about 50cm of the floss around your middle finger
- Curve theremaining centimeters and gently slide them between your teeth
- Start with a rotating motion at the base of your teeth and work your way up beneath the gums with the up-and-down motion
- Change the section of the floss before working on another tooth
Brushing
- Brush for two minutes
- Brush twice daily
Rinsing
- Instead of rinsing after brushing, spit out the mixture of saliva and toothpaste. This allows fluoride to work on your teeth.
