What Happens If You Do Not Floss?

If you are too interested in oral hygiene, flossing is not breaking news. While it is a simple practice that ensures you achieve fresh breath, most people neglect it. We will look at the consequences of not flossing. Before getting there, let’s take a dive to understand why people don’t floss regularly.

Why Do Most People Avoid Flossing Regularly?

Reasons range from ignorance to lack of time and lack of skills or suffering from conditions including arthritis that make flossing a tough call and gum sensitivity.

Consequences of Not Flossing Regularly

Bleeding Gums

Not flossing sets the stage for plaque, something you may never want close to your gum line. A plaque-infested gum line leaves you with inflamed gums. In my oral health experience, inflamed gums are susceptible to bleeding.

Bad Breath

Halitosis or Bad breath stems from food particles that remain in your mouth. Bacteria in your mouth break down these food particles, creating sulfur compounds that make people around you uncomfortable, especially if you talk to them.

Chronic Health Issues

Inflamed gums trigger chronic health issues, including dementia, heart disease, diabetes, and weight gain. Will you still neglect to floss regularly?
