Body Language in Dating

The ability to read another person’s body language will not only help you with dating and relationships but all aspects of your life. In a study conducted by a doctor named Dr Mehrabian he concluded that 93% of communication among humans is nonverbal. To further break down those stats he found 55% was visual, 38% was vocal and 7% was verbal. That means that the ability to read another person’s body language is very important if you want to be able to successfully interact with others.

Most of the time we pick up on body language signals subconsciously, meaning we’re not aware that we’re reading body language. However, with a bit of time spent on research you can learn to recognize common body language signs and signals. For example, if you’re talking to a person and they cross their arms they’re either getting defensive, attempting to shut down communication, feeling anxious or they’re just cold.

One of the surest signs that someone you’re dating likes you is if they mimic your body language. Test it out next time you’re having a conversation by deliberately performing an act and see if they copy. For example, if you’re sitting at a table lean forward slightly and cross your arms and rest them on the table. Alternatively rest your head in one of your hands with your elbow on the table. If they copy you, they’re into you. If you’re standing and having a conversation, cross your arms.
