EATING HABITS TO AVOID TO LIVE LIKE THE WORLD’S OLDEST PEOPLE

1. What eating habits should you avoid if you want to live like the world’s oldest people (Blue Zone residents)? Please list at least 2-3, and explain why avoiding these habits can support longevity. (For example, maybe avoiding a certain habit can help stave off heart disease.)

Eating processed foods mainly

Most processed foods contain excess sugar, sodium, less fiber, and more saturated fat.  Consuming them mainly results in diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. But I recommend that you pick foods high in fiber, which is linked to high longevity according to research. Furthermore, learn to make your food and monitor the ingredients sed.

Drinking soda regularly

Most dieticians discourage on frequent consumption of sugary beverages. Even studies indicate that too much intake of soft drinks and diets can shorten your lifespan. For instance, research with 451,000 European participants suggested that drinking two bottles of sodas in a day was linked to a high total mortality risk.

Eating eggs excessively

Research suggests that people who eat 300 mg of cholesterol- an egg has 184 mg, had an increased mortality rate by 18%. If you want to increase your longevity, it is best moderate on your daily egg consumption.

2. Why is it such a smart idea to follow the Blue Zones eating habits if you want to live a longer life?

The blue zone diet contains five main pillars; beans, whole grains, nuts, greens, and tuberous. These combinations offer high amounts of minerals and vitamins. For example, beans are satisfying and hearty, making it easier to do away with less healthy foods. They also have high fiber for great gut health and other functions that increase lifespan.
