FEMALE HEALTH EXPERT TO DISCUSS HOW SEX IMPACTS PERIOD CYCLES

Does having sex have an impact on our hormones? What/why?

As a female health expert, sex can have effects on our hormones and menstrual cycle. During sex, especially when we climax, the female body releases more oxytocin hormone which can lead to hormonal fluctuation and other hormone-based activities such as predictable periods and a reduction in the premenstrual syndrome signs.

Is there any evidence or thought processes to suggest that sex can induce a period? How/why?

In my opinion, sex may or may not induce your menstrual cycle. Intercourse might trigger periods if you orgasm and you expect to menstruate soon. The penetration rhythm and orgasm tends to open up the reproductive tract and enhances contraction of the uterus, softening and easing the flow of the blood lining. However, engaging in sex weeks earlier before your periods has no impact on ones’ periods.

Is there anything that suggests sex can delay your period? How/why?

Sex cannot delay your period as what influences the menstrual cycle are the hormone fluctuations during the ovulation period. A delay can only occur if you get pregnant.

Is there any concern if sex changes the regularity or expectation of your flow?

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong in having irregular periods as long as flow stays within the normal menstrual cycle.
